People who want to make money from their writing skills, blogging skills or just want to make money online, are always asking how long it is going to take. It's certainly a good question to ask. The problem is that people have false expectations of how much money they can make and how quickly they can make it.

There are adverts plastered all over the internet about how you can make $4,567 in an hour whilst sitting on the beach with your laptop. Perhaps some lucky person really has found a way of doing this. However one thing is for sure, if you are starting out with nothing, you will never be able to do this.

If people really can make this kind of money, why would they tell anyone about it? Why wouldn't they just sit there cashing in and not bother creating any competition for themselves. This tells you that it's likely to be a scam.

So if you think you can make anywhere near this kind of money with little effort you might as well give up now because it just doesn't happen like that. There are people who have been trying to make money on the internet for years and still haven't managed to make enough to give up their day job.

It can take a while to build up feedback so in the beginning you might want to do work cheaply just for the purposes of building up your reputation.

Once you have a lot of people saying good things about you, it will be much easier to start charging more money. You might even want to tell potential clients that you are looking to build up your feedback rating and therefore are prepared to do the work cheaply.

So if you are looking to bring in some money quickly then writing for others is certainly the best way to go. However there is a lot of cheap competition so you might find it difficult to make the kind of money you want.

A flood of people are turning to the internet in order to make some extra money. They are filled with hopes and dreams about all the money they will be raking in but often these dreams fizzle out into nothing. It's like a virus. There are more and more of them and trying to figure out who actually knows what they're talking about is very difficult. You end up having to do so the hard way by trying out the methods they teach. Either they will work for you or they won't. Unfortunately most people give up within a couple of months.

The search engines will be one of the major sources of vistors to your websites which means you will need to learn something called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). More on that later.

They have a very good reputation in the search engines which means when you publish your articles you should be able to get visitors to you articles without any major hassle. You will be sharing part of the revenue but the benefits far outweigh this. You will be able to make money quicker than doing things yourself.

The next option is for those with money to spend. You need to buy a domain name on a subject you want to write about. For instance if you want to write about lawn care then a domain such as lawncarematey.com would be good. Godaddy.com is possibly the best company to buy your domain from. Generally you should try to aim to buy a .com domain however .net, .org and .biz work well too. However the pricing can be different for them all so take that into consideration.

When you have bought your domain you then need to get it hosted somewhere. Hostgator.com is a good company for that and is cheap yet reliable. Your website can be created using many different kinds of software such as WordPress, FrontPage, Kompozer or Thingamablog. This is possibly the hardest part of it all because you are going to have to learn how to use these systems. It would be great to be more creative with your writing however this doesn't always work out. The short-term money is in non-fiction writing. So you either just have to accept it or find a way of making money with your writing passively.
